Getting sick? Ain’t nobody got time for that!

It’s that time of year when the weather begins to change, and we all start to spend more time together indoors, which means…drum roll please… we are even more susceptible to sharing our germs. Yum! But we all have busy lives, obligations, places to go, and things to do. Ain’t nobody got time for being sick and missing out! So what can you do about it? Well, there are the basics: good hand hygiene, plenty of rest, meaning 7-8 hrs a night, clean whole foods, nutrition, and good hydration, which is about 64 oz of water a day. What do you do when that’s not enough?

I curated a 14-day course of supplements that can help shorten the severity and duration of cold-like symptoms. Introducing TheSniffle Stopper!

Here’s how it works:

Day 1

·     initial high dose of vitamin C, 5 grams, which has been shown to lessen the severity and duration of cold symptoms.

·     High dose vitamin D3 50,000 IUs. Vitamin D3 plays a vital role in immune function, and most people tend to have low levels even if supplementing. I recommend taking this supplement with a healthy fat to improve absorption.

·     Echinacea is commonly used to prevent upper respiratory infections, and goldenseal is an anti-bacterial agent.

·     Elderberry is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral herb that has been shown to shorten the duration of a cold by 2-4 days.

·     Zinc picolinate 50 mg is used for its anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Long-term zinc supplementation can decrease copper levels. If you plan to continue Zinc supplementation for more than two weeks, consider a much lower dose and a supplement that also contains copper.

Day 2-14

The rest of the days are dosed a little differently. You will continue the echinacea, goldenseal, elderberry, 1 gram of vitamin C, and zinc. Since you had a big loading dose of vitamin D3, you won’t take D3 again until day 8, but the dose will be much lower. It also contains vitamin K and will be taken daily.

Each pack also includes a travel pack of tissues and hand sanitizer. If you think you might get a cough or cold this year, I recommend having a pack or two in the house, as they are most effective when starting early.

The kit is $25, but if you buy 5 or more at a time, there is a price break of $20/kit. If you would like to order one, you have options. You can respond to this email to tell me how many you want to order.  Then we can arrange a pickup time at my office in Lenexa, or we can ship to your house for an extra $10 for packing and shipping. They will also be available for purchase via Venmo at my office in Lenexa starting next week. If the doors are open to the office, you can pick one up at The Nature’s Medicine Cabinet, located inside the waiting area of Keyhole Counseling and Wellness.

Obligatory general disclaimer: This kit has not been prescribed for you based on your unique health needs. If you are unsure if it’s safe for you or want a regimen of tailored supplements that fit your specific needs, you can make an appointment for an integrative medicine assessment, where we can craft a safe plan together that is safe for you.
